Mysuru: Excise personnel in the district who have been reining in sales of liquor that is prohibited during the lockdown have so far seized liquor worth Rs 6.59 lakh


According to a release from Deputy Commissioner, Excise, “starting from March 24 till April 11, 526 raids were conducted and eight cases were registered and equal number of people were arrested in the cases.

A total of 111.090 litres of Indian Made Liquor ( IML), 7.260 litres of beer, 40 litres of barrack and six vehicles have been seized from them.

Following the orders of State Government and deputy commissioner to take measures to check the spread of pandemic Covid-19, the department has ordered closure of all types of liquor vends, godowns, distilleries and breweries.

To ensure that law and order is in place and to prevent any untoward incidents, 13 mobile teams including excise officers and personnel are constituted at taluk and district levels. They will be working round the clock in two shifts.

To facilitate people to tip off and lodge complaints related to illegal sales of liquor a separate district control room is opened at the office of Deputy commissioner, excise.
